Centon 64GB will not format in Win XP
Your drive may be formatted with the exFAT file system. exFAT is supported by OS X 10.6.5 or later, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista SP1 or later, and Windows XP SP2 or SP3 with Hotfix KB955704. Without Hotfix KB955704, Windows XP may experience trouble formatting drives formatted as exFAT. Drives that are larger than 32GB may come formatted as exFAT due to a Microsoft limitation of the FAT32 file system, which is the most commonly used disk file system for USB flash drives due to it wide application support.
Options to resolve the issue:
- Download and install Update for Windows XP (KB955704)
- On your Windows XP system, download and install a low level format software, then perform a low level format on the drive to reset the partition and MBR of the drive; then download and install the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (search download.com); use the HP Format tool to format the drive to FAT32
- Using your Win8/7/Vista SP1 computer, format the drive to FAT32 using the same HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool listed above.
- After the low level format completes successfully, format the USB drive with NTFS --- How to format USB drive with NTFS.
